Kyla and Dax are getting married at the West End Theater in downtown Portland. With Dax's background in comedy and acting they are keeping with the theme and using their engagement session to create 30's Era actor head shots like Humphrey Bogart and Betty Davis. These will be used in the West End Theater's Marquee box, as well as incorporated into their guest book. Here is some Fish Eye fun from Saturdays wedding at the Abiqua Estates in Silverton Oregon. This was my fist time at this venue and I can't wait to get back there. The lake and the landscaping was amazing, and made for some spectacular photography. The DJ was DOC, who was the most energetic DJ I've ever seen, and The Caterer was Premiere Catering who always puts on an excellent meal!

Who could believe we got sunshine for a while today and great timing with the sun coming out right after the ceremony (Hinson Baptist Church in Portland) We also had the worlds fastest ring bearer and a photobooth that wouldn't quit, I think I stayed an extra hour just to make sure there weren't any more takers for the photobooth, What a night in November! Congrats to Kevin and Tiffany.

Pinata fun! This is a first for me, I have never seen a Bride and Groom pinata before, and I hope I'll see more soon. Maybe we can start a trend. Not that anyone needed to get out their aggressions toward the bride and groom, but if they did need to they surely would have. And in the end, we see the bride and groom were full of sweet wishes....

This baby was just 4 days old and already so photogenic! This was a session with a bride and groom of mine from a few years ago, and is the first in a baby series; newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 1 year. At the end of the year we will have an album made that really captures babies first year.

PHOTOBOOTH! (coming to an event near you soon)

I have been working all Fall on developing a real photobooth that I can bring to weddings and events. My first working model is up and going. The booth is portable, and guests can enter the booth, push the button and it takes 4 shots which are printed out less than a minute later, Then I have it set up so the Bride and Groom (or party host) can get copy of every photostrip as well. If you want to take it for a spin call us and come on over, it is set up in the studio right now. I have a new domain name for it http://www.portlandphotobooth.com (not much there yet) and I will be posting updates and more examples here and there. I really enjoyed the old flavor of the Churchand the indoor/outdoor nature of the reception. The Golf Club gives lots of opportunities to shoot portraits in the tall grasses and Dune like hills.

Mini Movies! Quick fun wedding videos!

Our number one goal here is always stunning artistic wedding photography, but we have been developing a fun style of wedding video here at our studio over the last couple of years, as well. Our newest twist is the Mini Movie. An example can be seen at http://www.portlandphotographer.net/minimovie.html and another at http://www.portlandphotographer.net/jillandchris

I shoot the video clips at the same time as the stills and create a mini wedding video that is about 10 minutes long, we can include still images and some sound as well, but the goal is a mini video that is fun to watch and share online and on DVD. Another unique example of our wedding movies can be seen at http://www.portlandphhotographer.net/8mm which showcases a real wedding film shot on Super 8mm film. These films are a great video alternative.

Black and White IR (infrared) Photography

IR photography involves looking at a special frequency of light which is just outside of our visible range, leaves and plants reflect this light and turn white, and the sky goes a deep dark shade. It can be very dramatic and a fun way to look at the world. I use a Canon D30 camera that I modified myself to capture IR images.

We have some great new 5x5 inch coffee table books that work well with baby and family shots as well as parent books for weddings. Take a look at Baby Grant's book at http://www.portlandphotographer.net/granthallbook

They also come in 7x7, 8x8 and 10x10 size, but the 5x5 fits neatly in a purse. They have a photo cover and back cover which really makes them look like a published book.

Here are some examples from a recent "3 month old" portrait session. Having a session every 3 months for a babies first year makes for a compelling series of a child’s most dramatic growth period. I often make Coffee Table books highlighting such a series.

Aimee and Robert were married at Immaculate heart Catholic Church in N. Portland, and had their reception at The Embassy Suites Hotel, downtown Portland. We also shot a wedding video for them.

The church is a real treasure for photographers, and the Embassy Suites was an elegant backdrop for some great dancing, including some traditional Philipino dancers!

I always try to do an engagement session with all of my couples. I find that shooting a couple before their wedding day really helps me get to know them and make them more comfortable on their wedding day. The sessions last about 40 minutes and are relaxed and fun so that you get a feel for how I like to shoot and not get stressed out.
